Relax: It's Good For You

I know better than anyone what it's like to be busy. You're overwhelmed and stressed. At the same time though, you're keeping your mind off other worries and being productive. I actually enjoy being busy. There's a time for everything though and you should definitely be making time to relax.

No matter where I am, at home, on campus, or on vacation, I find a place where I can drink some tea or coffee and think about my life and where it's going. Do I like where I am? If not, what can I do to make it better? This is an important time to self-reflect and doing it is helpful to make sure you're on the path you want to be on.

The place I find to self-reflect, I've recently started calling "my oasis". The dictionary definition says an oasis is a pleasant or peaceful area or period in the midst of a difficult, troubled, or hectic place or situation. On campus, the fourth floor of Michigan State University's main library is always quiet and peaceful. I found the word "oasis" written on the wall there the first time I went there to study and it fit perfectly.

Off campus, I head to Red Cedar Cafe to drink tea and study, journal, or chat with friends. Journaling has become a daily activity for me, even if I can only get a half page done, it's been a successful day. It allows me to express my feelings and work out my the thoughts in my head.

So, the next time you go through a tough, crazy week, plan for a day over the weekend to relax and find your oasis.
